You Already Feel the Pull.
The Question Is What You Do With It.

If you are exploring hypnosis training, one of two things is probably true. You may be standing at the edge of a career change, tired of work that pays the bills but leaves something essential in you untouched, and wondering whether you could actually make a living helping people transform. Or you may already be in the healing arts, and you have seen hypnosis work with your own eyes, yet something nags at you. Your clients relax. They feel better for a while. And then the old pattern comes back.

Sit with that second one for a moment, because it matters. The question was never whether hypnosis is real. It is whether your clients are getting the depth of change they came for. Reading a script to someone can produce a pleasant session. It rarely produces the kind of root level shift that a client remembers years later. And when the results stay on the surface, it is not because hypnosis fell short. It is because the training did.

Why Do Some Practitioners Get Results That Last?

The script bound practitioner

  • Reads inductions word for word and hopes they land
  • Freezes when a client says something the script did not anticipate
  • Delivers pleasant relaxation, then watches old patterns return
  • Quietly doubts whether they are really qualified to charge for this

The interactive hypnotherapist

  • Works conversationally with whatever the client brings into the room
  • Follows the client's own words down to the root of the pattern
  • Guides real, lasting change that clients tell their friends about
  • Charges with confidence, because the results speak for themselves

Who Will Be Guiding You?

My name is Mark Johnson, and I am a second generation hypnotherapist. My father practiced hypnotherapy when I was growing up, holding sessions at the house, so I did not discover this work in a weekend seminar. I grew up inside it, watched it change lives up close, and eventually built my own practice on it in Dallas, seeing clients on evenings and weekends for years while I held a corporate programming job, until the practice could carry the weight on its own. I teach the transition the same way I lived it.

My teaching draws on the masters I studied along the way, including Gerald Kein, Gil Boyne, Randall Churchill and Ormond McGill, and for years I traveled the country holding classes in person before moving the entire certification live online. The program carries certification through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, recognized worldwide, and I serve as a Career Partner with the Newton Institute, so this training also opens the door to past life regression and Life Between Lives work if that path ever calls to you. Those credentials matter, but here is what matters more: I teach interactive hypnosis, not script reading. You will graduate knowing how to sit with a real human being and guide them to real depth.

How Does Live Online Training
Actually Work?

I teach online the exact same way I taught when I traveled to hold classes in person, using a three part rhythm I call Discussion, Demonstration, and Doing. First we open the training manual together on screen and break down the exact mechanics of a technique. Then I demonstrate it live, with a student volunteer or an outside subject, so you watch the whole process unfold in real time. Then you go into a private breakout room with a classmate and do it yourself, taking turns as hypnotist and as client, on your very first day and every class day after it.

You are never left to figure things out alone in those rooms. There is an Ask for Help button at the bottom of your screen, and pressing it pages me or one of my experienced teaching assistants into your room immediately. I also move from room to room throughout every practice session. You get feedback in the moment you need it, personal mentoring on your inductions, your language, and your presence, and by the end you will have guided enough real sessions under supervision that your first paying client feels like a natural next step rather than a leap of faith.

Hypnotherapy Training

I wish there were 10 or 20 stars, as I cannot begin to put into words how amazing the Hypnosis Training course was with Mark Johnson. Once COVID-19 derailed the original class schedule of meeting in-person for two separate weeks of training, Mark presented through Zoom. We had presentations and lectures, we were able to see notes and outlines, video clips and live demonstrations with his shared screens. Lots of member participation and interaction. The separate rooms were perfect for practicing techniques with partners. Zoom allowed for Mark to enter the rooms and observe; as well, there was a help button so he could assist at anytime. Feedback throughout was excellent. As I have practiced with volunteers, friends, family, all of which was done on Zoom, both the clients as well as myself have been extremely comfortable and found the on-line experiences to be comfortable and effective. I feel very well prepared and have formed some awesome relationships with Mark and my fellow classmates. The best!

What Is the Schedule and
Time Commitment?

The live portion of the training is 110 hours. We meet Thursday through Sunday, every other week, for twelve days across three modules. If you work a normal Monday to Friday week, that means taking only six days off in total, which is exactly why the schedule is built this way. Class runs from 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening Central Time, which is 11:00 to 7:00 Eastern and 8:00 to 4:00 Pacific, and students join live from every time zone in the country.

The final fourteen hours are what I call post training: two seven hour days that we schedule by class consensus, about four to six weeks after the last module. That gap is deliberate. You go out and practice, then come back with real sessions behind you and real questions, and we work through them together. Alongside the live hours you complete 110 hours of self directed study on your own schedule, which includes the reading list, the video library, and at least five complete sessions with people outside of class.

What Does It Take to
Become Certified?

The full program is 220 hours, certified through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, and your first year of IACT membership and certification is included in your tuition. To earn the certified hypnotherapist designation you attend the 110 live hours, complete the 110 self directed hours including five complete sessions with people outside of class, turn in a written homework assignment, pass the multiple choice exam we take together in the final module after a practice test, finish IACT's short online ethics course, and submit one audio recording of an interactive session.

That list is longer than most schools ask for, and that is the point. A certificate you earned by attending is worth what it took to get it. This one certifies that you have actually guided real people through real sessions, repeatedly, with an experienced trainer watching. It also satisfies the foundational prerequisite for the Newton Institute if spiritual regression work ever calls to you.

Hypnotherapy Training

I have taken two training week-long learning experiences with Mark Johnson. I have also taken training experiences with three other internationally well-known names in the field of Hypnotherapy, specifically with past-life regressions. I considered all of these trainings to be very good and definitely worthwhile experiences. So it means a LOT when I say that the best training I received was hands down, no comparison, the training I received with Mark Johnson. I learned more nuts and bolts techniques, more alternative options and received an INCREDIBLE amount of rich resources to learn from the best of the best in hypnosis. I cannot recommend his course highly enough. His requirements to certify were the most stringent and thus his certification means the most to me. If you are serious about wanting to learn hypnosis, THIS is the right place to start your journey. You come out of his course with the most hours of actual experience practicing hypnosis, including personal feedback. This is the real deal, guys.

Hypnotherapy Training

Mark is a very knowledgeable teacher. He brings 100% to every hour in the class. He is a wealth of knowledge and passes that along easily. His teaching style is generous and easy to follow. He offers an enormous amount of guidance through the live zoom teaching and a plethora of useful information contained on a very large drop box! I would highly recommend a class with him. I’ve been booking hypnotherapy clients since before the end of our last class and feel confident in my skills after studying with Mark.

Can You Really Make a
Living Doing This?

Yes, and my honest advice is do not quit your day job on day one. I built my own practice as a weekend warrior, seeing clients on evenings and weekends while keeping my corporate income, and I recommend that path because it takes the financial pressure off while you get good. The training covers the business side directly: how to set up a Google Business Profile and collect real reviews, how to build ethical referral relationships with doctors, counselors and chiropractors, and how to get your first sessions through local groups and communities. Most of my students recoup their tuition within their first twenty paying clients, or fewer.

And because you train over a camera from day one, you graduate already able to run a borderless practice. Your clients can be in your own neighborhood, or in Canada, the UK and Australia, in the same week.

Is This Training Right for You?

This program is a genuinely good fit if you recognize yourself in any of these:

  • You are a healing arts professional, a coach, counselor, massage therapist, or energy worker, ready to add hypnotherapy to what you already offer.
  • You are considering a career change into a helping profession, and you want a real education, not a weekend certificate.
  • You already practice hypnosis and you are tired of surface level scripts. You want the skill to guide clients to root cause depth.
  • You feel called to this work and want to build a practice, full time or alongside what you do now, with genuine purpose behind it.

If none of those sound like you, that is useful to know too, and I would rather you find that out on a friendly call than after you enroll.

Where is the training available?

Everywhere you are. The full certification is delivered through a live, interactive online classroom, and students join from across the United States, Canada, the UK and beyond. If you would like to see what the training looks like from your part of the country, visit our training locations directory and find your city.

What Happens Next?

You do not have to decide anything today. The next step is simply a conversation. The discovery call is a relaxed, no pressure talk, about 20 minutes, where we discuss your goals, I answer every question you have, and we figure out together whether this training is your right next step. There is no obligation to enroll, and you will never get a hard sell from me.

Hypnotherapy Training

Wow! I wanted to learn hypnosis, and I did, but there was so much more to this training. I did not realize I'd have an opportunity to work on myself in addition to learning how to help others. Mark is a fantastic instructor with so much to share and he shares freely. The online format worked very well for me and I consider many of the other students to be close friends. Avoiding traffic and travel expenses was one reason I feel that learning hypnosis online worked well for me. I got so much out of the practice sessions with the other students, because it gave me the confidence to hypnotize friends, family and clients online. I also found that I can take what I learned and hypnotize people in person as well. I enjoy the flexibility that I have to be able to work in person and online, free of fear and full of confidence. If you are considering learning hypnosis, sign up for this training. You won't find a better instructor than Mark, he makes learning online fun and easy. Don't let that fool you, because you learn a lot, everything you need to know to start working with clients even before you complete the training.

Frequently Asked Questions

You are never left on your own to figure it out. There is a button at the bottom of your screen that says Ask for Help. You or your partner press it, and it pages me instantly. Either I or one of my experienced teaching assistants comes straight into your room and walks you through whatever you are facing. I also move room to room on my own throughout the practice sessions. You get real feedback in the moment it matters, not three days later when you have already talked yourself out of trying again.

You graduate ready, and that is deliberate. By the time you finish you have practiced on every class day under supervision and completed at least five full sessions with people outside of class, so seeing your first paying client is the next step rather than a leap. Many students start before the program even ends. The post training days exist partly for this, because four to six weeks after the last module you come back with real sessions behind you and real questions, and we work through them together.

The live portion is 110 hours. We meet Thursday through Sunday, every other week, for twelve days across three modules. If you work a normal Monday to Friday week, that means taking only six days off in total, which is why this schedule exists in the first place. Class runs 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening Central Time, which is 11:00 to 7:00 Eastern and 8:00 to 4:00 Pacific. The final fourteen hours are what I call post training, two seven hour days that we schedule by class consensus about four to six weeks after the last module. That gap is on purpose. You go practice, you come back with real war stories and real questions, and we work through them together.

It is one of the most natural transitions I see. Bodyworkers come to me saying some version of the same thing, that the stamina is not what it was and they cannot picture doing this for another fifteen years. You already know how to hold space for someone, how to be trusted with a body and a nervous system, how to notice what a person is not saying. Hypnotherapy asks for all of that and none of the physical toll. Many bodyworkers add it alongside their existing practice at first and let it grow as their hands do less.

It is a relaxed, no pressure conversation, usually about twenty minutes. We talk about your goals, I answer any question you have, and together we work out whether this is the right fit for you. There is no obligation and you will never get a hard sell from me. I have told people the timing was not right for them more than once. When the time is right, the class happens.

The honest answer is that it depends on what you do after class, and I would rather say that plainly than sell you a guarantee. What I can tell you is the pattern I have watched for over twenty years. Most students recoup their tuition within their first twenty paying clients, or fewer. That is why I teach the practice building side alongside the clinical work instead of leaving you to figure it out, and why I tell career changers to keep their income while they build rather than leaping into the void. You are not meant to be financially exposed while you learn this.

It is following a feeling back to where it started rather than analyzing it where it sits. A student of mine loved country western dancing but froze every time she met a man she actually liked, and years of talking about her dating life had never explained why. In a class demonstration we asked her subconscious to trace that exact feeling to its origin, and she went straight to age four and a memory of her father shouting and drinking. She released the fear the child had been holding, and the adult pattern went with it. She came back the next morning glowing, having slept through the night for the first time in years. That is the technique. You will learn it here.

The program totals 220 hours and certifies through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, and your first year of membership and certification is included in your tuition. To earn the certified hypnotherapist designation you attend all 110 hours of live class, complete 110 hours of self directed study on your own time, which includes the reading list, the video library, and at least five complete hypnosis sessions with people outside of class, turn in a written homework assignment, pass the multiple choice exam we take in class during the final module, complete a short online ethics course through IACT, and submit one audio recording of an interactive session. The exam sounds more intimidating than it is. We take a practice test together first, so you walk in knowing exactly what to expect.

No, and this is one of the real differences in how I teach. Reading a script to someone produces a pleasant session. It rarely produces the kind of change a client still remembers years later, and it leaves you stranded the moment they say something the script did not anticipate. What you learn here is interactive hypnosis. You work conversationally with whatever the person in front of you brings, and you follow their own language down to the root of the thing. The client's subconscious supplies the words. Your job is knowing what to do with them.

They will once they see results, and that is worth more than any credential you can hang on a wall. A medical doctor near me was openly skeptical of hypnosis until one of her patients quit smoking in a single session. She started sending me her most difficult cases. Years later, when she was preparing to climb Kilimanjaro and found herself paralyzed by anxiety her own tools could not touch, she booked a session for herself. She summited, and she still refers patients to me. I will teach you the ethics, the boundaries and the referral language that make that kind of relationship possible.

Yes, and my honest advice is do not quit your day job on day one. I did not leap into the void myself. I spent several years writing code for a living, including a stretch programming for match.com, while seeing clients on evenings and weekends and slowly building up. That is the path I recommend, because it takes financial survival pressure off the table and lets you focus on getting good. Some students move faster. I had one buy an office condo before our class even finished. But easing in is not a lesser version of this, it is the sustainable version. You learn this work by sitting in the chair and doing sessions, and the practice grows as your confidence does.

Because learning online makes you a sharper practitioner, and it opens your practice up rather than narrowing it. Over a camera you are forced to become very observant. You learn to read breathing changes, facial tension, and rapid eye movement under the eyelids on a screen, and once you can spot those there, spotting them across the room is simple. You also graduate already able to work with anyone, anywhere. Clients have been comfortable meeting online for years now. Train only in person and your first Zoom session becomes a hurdle you have to psych yourself up for. Train this way and you have already cleared it, so you can see the person down the street and the person in Canada or the UK in the same week.

Many of my students are licensed clinical social workers, psychotherapists, counselors, nurses and professional coaches, and they tend to describe the same thing. Talk therapy is valuable, but it works largely within the conscious mind, and that can feel slow. Hypnosis accelerates the work you already do. By moving past the conscious mind's critical factor you reach the place where the patterns and the programs actually live. Adding interactive techniques like Parts Therapy, inner child work and regression to cause lets you help a client find and release a block in far less time than talking around it. Your license stays your baseline authority. This is a tool that makes it go further.

Live, and I want to be straight with you about why. The class runs on a method I call the three D's: Discussion, Demonstration, and Doing. We go through the manual together on screen and break down the mechanics of a technique. Then I demonstrate it live with a student volunteer or an outside subject so you watch the whole thing unfold. Then you go into a private Zoom breakout room with a classmate and trade sessions, taking turns as hypnotist and as client. That last part is the whole point, and it depends on having partners in the room with you. Recordings exist as a backup if life interrupts a day, but watching a video is not the same as sitting in the chair and doing the work.

People apologize to me for this on nearly every call, and I stop them every time. Real estate, retail, corporate administration, sales, teaching, nursing, any work where you had to sit with a stranger and build trust quickly. That is rapport, and rapport is the hardest part of this to teach. You already have it. What you are here for is the mechanics to put underneath it. One student put it perfectly. She said she wanted to take what she already did naturally and put some pants on it.

Traditional academic financial aid does not apply to a program like this, so no, and I would rather be straight with you than let you chase it. What I do instead is make it easy to pay over time. A deposit holds your seat and your rate, and the balance spreads across several months interest free. Between the early bird rate and a plan, most people find the path opens up more easily than they expected.

No. Real clinical confidence is built, not born. A lot of people assume this work requires an innate talent you either have or you do not, and that belief keeps good people out of a profession they would be wonderful in. Hypnosis is a structured, systematic, teachable skill. We break the induction into simple logical steps, you watch it done, you do it yourself, and you get proof it works in your hands within the first few hours of class. You also do not have to memorize a library of scripts, because the client's own words give you what you need to guide the session. That is the part that surprises people most.

Tuition for the complete certification is $3,295, with an early bird rate of $2,995 when you register at least six weeks ahead, and you can reserve your seat with an $895 deposit. That covers everything: 110 hours of live instruction, 110 hours of self directed study, daily supervised practice, personal mentoring in breakout rooms, the full resource library, and your first year of professional membership and certification with the International Association of Counselors and Therapists. Payment plans are available and we can set one up that works for you. Most of my students recoup their tuition within their first twenty paying clients, or fewer.

Then we spread it out. You can lock in your rate with an $895 deposit and pay the balance over several months, interest free, on a schedule we build together. I have never wanted money to be the reason someone with a real calling stays where they are. Bring it up on the discovery call and we will work out something that feels comfortable rather than something that keeps you up at night.

Reading from my recommended list, watching the training videos in the resource library, and doing the work. At least five complete hypnosis sessions with people outside of class, which is the part that changes you. Every student tells me the same thing afterward, that the reading made sense but the sessions are where it became real. You keep access to the resource library after you graduate, so the reading and the videos stay available whenever you want to go back to something.

Sometimes it takes a while. Sometimes it takes one afternoon, and that still surprises me after all these years. I worked with a woman on confidence and boundaries for three sessions, then did not hear from her for a year, until I ran into her at a market. She told me that on the evening of the third session her controlling partner came over looking for a fight, and instead of shrinking the way she always had, she simply stood there and spoke calmly. He was so thrown that he took her house key off his keyring, set it on the table, and left. She never needed a fourth session. Working with the subconscious directly is not slow work.

Anxiety and stress, confidence and self worth, habits including smoking, fears and phobias, performance blocks, and the patterns people cannot think their way out of no matter how clearly they see them. One of my clients was a chiropractor who had failed her state board exam four times, not from lack of knowledge but because the moment she hit a question she could not answer, panic locked up her memory. We did not study the material. We disconnected the panic from the trigger and anchored calm in its place. She passed and got her license. That is the kind of work this is.

I hear this one constantly, and I understand it. Here is my honest answer: I teach online the exact same way I used to teach when I traveled to hold classes in Chicago, Atlanta and Phoenix. Same manual, same demonstrations, same practice, same feedback. You discuss the technique, you watch me do it live, then you go do it yourself with a partner while I am available the whole time. Because you are doing the work rather than watching it, you build real confidence from your very first day. And if you can facilitate hypnosis over a camera, walking into your own office and doing it in person later is easy.

The post training block comes after you have been out practicing, which is when the questions that matter finally show up. You keep access to the resource library for good. Your first year of IACT membership and certification is included, which connects you to a professional body rather than leaving you on your own. And students from a cohort tend to stay in touch with each other and keep trading sessions long after class ends, which I encourage, because the person who watched you learn this is the person who will still take your call at nine at night when a session rattles you.

From the first day. Every class day includes supervised practice, where you go into a breakout room with a classmate and take turns as hypnotist and as client. You will experience hypnosis yourself as often as you facilitate it, which matters more than people expect, because knowing what it feels like from the inside makes you far better at guiding it. Then before you certify you complete at least five full sessions with people outside the class. By the end you have real hours behind you, not just notes.

A computer with a camera and a stable internet connection. That is genuinely it. You do not need special software beyond Zoom, and you do not need a studio. What matters more is a room where you will not be interrupted for the day, because you will be doing real sessions with real classmates and both of you deserve that quiet.

It happens, and having an answer ready is the difference between panicking and staying in charge of the session. I had a very analytical client sit with me who, after twenty minutes of deep relaxation work, announced that he was not hypnotized, that he could still feel the sofa underneath him and hear the air conditioner running. He was right about all of it. Hypnosis does not switch off your senses or knock you unconscious. So I asked him to close his eyes, imagine standing up, and slowly turn a full circle three times. On the third turn he dropped straight into his fourth birthday party, describing the pinata hanging over his head. You will leave here with a whole library of those quiet nudges, one for every kind of brain that sits in your chair.

No one gets stuck. Trance is a natural state of focused attention that you move in and out of on your own all the time, on a long drive or lost in a book. A client can open their eyes and stand up whenever they choose. Safety in this work is much less about the trance itself and much more about knowing what to do when something emotional surfaces, which is precisely what the supervised practice and the clinical training are for. You will not be improvising.

This is one of the quietest fears people carry into a discovery call, and it deserves a real answer. You are not there to fix anyone, and you do not need a psychology degree to facilitate a genuine breakthrough. We teach you how to set clear professional boundaries, how to word your website and intake disclaimers, and how to work with referrals so that a client with a diagnosed condition is being cared for by the right people alongside you. That protects you and it turns local doctors and counselors into a referral source rather than a worry. And the techniques themselves keep you in the right seat. You guide non leading dialogue and the client's own subconscious does the resolving. You are the facilitator, not the one carrying the weight.

It does, and I am blunt about it in class. Plenty of certifying organizations will tell you a free listing in their member directory brings clients. In twenty plus years I have not seen that happen. So instead I show you what has actually kept my own practice full. You will learn how to set up a Google Business Profile properly and collect real reviews, which is the lifeblood of a local practice now. You will learn how to build ethical relationships with doctors, counselors and chiropractors, because when a client stops smoking or finds relief from chronic pain, their doctor asks how, and that one question starts a referral snowball. And we talk about the grassroots side, using local meetups, meditation groups and community groups to get your first sessions and your first war stories under your belt.

Yes, and most of my students do. The schedule was built around that. Three modules of four days, Thursday through Sunday, every other week, which for someone on a standard work week means six days of time off rather than three straight weeks away from your life. The self directed hours happen on your own schedule. Plenty of people have come through this program while holding a full time job, raising a family, or running another practice.

Almost every student arrives carrying this fear, so we take it head on, on day one. You will learn the Dave Elman induction, a technique that has been working for over a hundred years and takes five or six minutes to guide someone into a deep, relaxed state. Then comes the moment I love watching. In your very first practice trade you will guide your partner to close their eyes and tell them their eyelids are locked shut, sealed, and to try to open them. They try. They cannot. Something shifts in both of you right then. That is not a mystical gift showing up, it is a structured skill working exactly the way it is built to, and you did it on your first day.

Graduates earn certification through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, which is recognized worldwide, and your first year of membership is included. The training also satisfies the foundational prerequisite for the Newton Institute, where I serve as a Career Partner, so if spiritual regression work ever calls to you, this training is the doorway rather than a detour.

No, and I would gently push back on the premise. A great deal of what makes someone good at this work is life lived. Knowing what grief actually feels like, what a hard marriage feels like, what raising children or losing a parent does to a person. Students come to me in their fifties and sixties saying their heart is finally coming back to where they wanted it decades ago, before someone told them there was no money in it. They are often the best practitioners in the room, because a client can feel that they are talking to someone who has been somewhere.

Some of my best students have said almost exactly that to me. My mind runs a hundred thousand miles an hour. I have too much mental clutter. Here is the first thing to understand: hypnosis is not meditation. You do not need to silence your thoughts or go unconscious to reach a deep trance. It is a state of focused attention, and analytical minds often make excellent subjects once you know how to work with them. I will teach you a whole set of clinical backup plans built for exactly this. One of them has the client pick a color for their relaxation and a different color for their chattering conscious mind, then breathe the second one out. Busy brains tend to drop straight down once they are given something to do.

Hours and practice, mostly. A weekend course gives you a certificate. This is 220 hours, half of it live with me, with supervised practice on every single class day, five complete sessions with people outside of class before you certify, a written assignment, an exam, and a recorded session you submit. I am not interested in handing you a piece of paper. I want you to have guided enough real people, with someone experienced watching, that seeing your first paying client feels like the natural next thing rather than a leap.

Then it is not right yet, and that is a completely fine answer. I have said this to people for years: when the time is right, the session happens, and when the time is right, the class happens. Come to the discovery call anyway if you are curious. Getting your questions answered costs you nothing and it means that when your timing does arrive, you already know exactly what you are stepping into.

Talk to me. Life does happen, and recordings exist as a backup for exactly that reason. But I want to be honest rather than reassuring here: the class runs on students trading sessions with each other in breakout rooms, so an empty seat is felt by the person who would have been your partner. Live attendance genuinely matters, and if you already know a conflict is coming, we are usually better off putting you in a later cohort than having you miss the heart of it.

Schedule a Discovery Call A relaxed 20 minute conversation about your goals. No pressure, no obligation to enroll.
