Frequently Asked Questions

No degree, no prior clinical background and no previous experience with hypnosis. That surprises people, and it is worth being clear about why it is true. The field is self regulated, so the qualification that carries weight is certification through a recognized professional body rather than a university credential.

What you actually need is the training itself. In this program that means 110 hours of live class, 110 hours of self directed study, at least five complete sessions with people outside of class, a written assignment, an exam we prepare for together, a short ethics course through IACT and one recorded session you submit. Complete those and you hold certification through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, recognized worldwide, with your first year of membership included. If you already have a clinical license or a coaching practice, this stacks on top of it rather than replacing it.

Yes, and the reason is simpler than most career answers. You get to watch people change. Someone arrives carrying a fear they have had since childhood, or a habit that has beaten them for twenty years. Then, a few sessions later, it is no longer running their life. You were the one sitting there when it happened, and that stays with you.

Most of my students came from work that paid fine and meant little. What they tell me down the road is usually about the meaning rather than the money. It is the feeling of finally doing something at the end of the day that matters.

The practical side is good too. You set your own hours and your own fees, you can work from anywhere with a good connection, and your income grows as your practice does.

Finding your own clients is part of it, and it is a skill like any other. Some of the most gifted hypnotists I train are the ones most eager to learn the business side, and once they do, their practices take off. That is one of the most popular topics in the Good Vibes Hypnosis Mentor Circle, which continues after your last class day. If sitting with one person and helping them change sounds like the best part of your day, this work will suit you well.

You do not need a quiet mind to put someone else into trance, and the two have almost nothing to do with each other. Some of my best students have said almost exactly that to me. My mind runs a hundred thousand miles an hour. I have too much mental clutter. Here is the first thing to understand: hypnosis is not meditation. You do not need to silence your thoughts or go unconscious to reach a deep trance. It is a state of focused attention, and analytical minds often make excellent subjects once you know how to work with them. I will teach you a whole set of clinical backup plans built for exactly this. One of them has the client pick a color for their relaxation and a different color for their chattering conscious mind, then breathe the second one out. Busy brains tend to drop straight down once they are given something to do.

Live, and I want to be straight with you about why. The class runs on a method I call the three D's: Discussion, Demonstration, and Doing. We go through the manual together on screen and break down the mechanics of a technique. Then I demonstrate it live with a student volunteer or an outside subject so you watch the whole thing unfold. Then you go into a private Zoom breakout room with a classmate and trade sessions, taking turns as hypnotist and as client. That last part is the whole point, and it depends on having partners in the room with you. Recordings exist as a backup if life interrupts a day, but watching a video is not the same as sitting in the chair and doing the work.
