Is This a Meaningful Second Act After Government or Nonprofit Work?

For mission driven people it may be the most direct work available. Washington careers serve causes through committees, budgets and memos, three layers removed from any actual human being, and the people who burn out here usually burn out on the distance, not the work. Hypnotherapy removes the distance entirely: the person you are helping is in front of you, and the change happens while you watch.

The transition suits careful planners too. Train while employed, the live portion costs six days off across six weeks, build an evening practice, and let the results decide the timeline. Half of my career changers never fully leave their first career. The other half are glad they did.

Relief, at professional grade. Washington runs on performance under scrutiny: the stakes are national, the hours are long, the sleep is negotiable and the imposter feelings are epidemic in a city where everyone was the smartest person in their hometown. Stress, insomnia, confidence and stubborn habits are the daily bread of a DC practice, and they are exactly what this training teaches you to resolve.

Regression to cause matters especially here, because high functioning people have usually outrun their patterns for decades before the patterns catch up. Finding where a pattern started, and releasing it there, is the work that finally holds.

I wish there were 10 or 20 stars, as I cannot begin to put into words how amazing the Hypnosis Training course was with Mark Johnson. Once COVID-19 derailed the original class schedule of meeting in-person for two separate weeks of training, Mark presented through Zoom. We had presentations and lectures, we were able to see notes and outlines, video clips and live demonstrations with his shared screens. Lots of member participation and interaction. The separate rooms were perfect for practicing techniques with partners. Zoom allowed for Mark to enter the rooms and observe; as well, there was a help button so he could assist at anytime. Feedback throughout was excellent. As I have practiced with volunteers, friends, family, all of which was done on Zoom, both the clients as well as myself have been extremely comfortable and found the on-line experiences to be comfortable and effective. I feel very well prepared and have formed some awesome relationships with Mark and my fellow classmates. The best!

Better in this profession than almost any other. Sessions run one on one, online if the client prefers, from whatever quiet room they choose, with no waiting room to be seen in and no insurance paper trail unless they create one. It matters to the professionals too. The region’s therapists and physicians refer to practitioners whose training they can verify, and in a market this networked, a few of those relationships fill a calendar.

What Does the Schedule Look Like From the District?

Class runs 11 in the morning to 7 in the evening Eastern, three modules of four days each, Thursday through Sunday, every other week, twelve live days in all. A standard work schedule gives up six days across six weeks. The 110 self directed hours, the reading, the video library and five complete practice sessions with people outside class, fit around the job you still have.

Does a hypnotherapy practice work across DC, Maryland and Virginia?

Smoothly. Your IACT certification is recognized across the region and internationally, we review any rules that apply where you practice, and online sessions make the jurisdiction question mostly academic anyway. The capital region behaves as one market, and it is a deep one.

It depends entirely on what you intend to do with it, and I would rather say that plainly than sell you something. If you are going to see clients, then yes, and the tuition tends to come back inside your first twenty paying sessions or fewer. If you want the certificate for the wall, or to add a line to a coaching page you are not really going to use, then no amount of tuition is worth it and I will say so on the call. ||The other half of the question is which training is worth it, and there I would judge any program, mine included, on three things. How many hours are live with the person teaching, how many times you will guide a real human being with someone experienced watching you, and what happens after the last class day. ||A course that is mostly recordings and no supervised practice produces people holding a certificate who have never actually run a session, and that is where the disappointment comes from. Ask any program those three questions, not just this one.

The live portion is 110 hours. We meet Thursday through Sunday, every other week, for twelve days across three modules. If you work a normal Monday to Friday week, that means taking only six days off in total, which is why this schedule exists in the first place. Class runs 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening Central Time, which is 11:00 to 7:00 Eastern and 8:00 to 4:00 Pacific. The final fourteen hours are what I call post training, two seven hour days that we schedule by class consensus about four to six weeks after the last module. That gap is on purpose. You go practice, you come back with real war stories and real questions, and we work through them together.
